Official Philanthropy - Service for Sight

Delta Gamma’s philanthropy is to prevent blindness before it begins and to aid those for whom blindness already affects. In the last 55 years, Delta Gamma has funded schools for children with visual impairments or blindness and has collaborated with 150 other organizations that share the same mission. Delta Gamma has also funded genetic research, low vision adaptive devices, tapes, and Braille books.

In the 2014-2015 schoolar year, Zeta Alpha has raised over $9,000 for Service for Sight and has spent over 1,500 hours serving and volunteering.

Capture the Anchor

Capture the Anchor is our major fundraising event held in the fall. It is a Capture the Flag tournament where everyone on campus is encouraged to create a team and participate. It's an afternoon filled with fun, food, and friendly competition. This past year we raised $1,784! All of the money raised goes towards our philanthropy Service for Sight/Aid to the Blind!

DG Desserts

DG Desserts is our major fundraising event in the spring. Sisters bake everything from cookies and cake pops to chocolate covered pretzels and cupcakes. We even have an ice cream bar with every topping imaginable! The Villanova student body is invited to join the sisters of Delta Gamma for our all-you-can eat dessert buffet featuring a live DJ and raffle prizes. This event is always a huge success and in 2015, we raised over $7,000 for Service for Sight.

Blind Sports Organization

Delta Gamma at Villanova University has partnered with the Blind Sports Organization to help those who are visually impaired. Sisters volunteer at Overbrook School for the Blind to help athletes play goalball. Goalball is a game where participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells in it into the opponents' goal. Teams alternate throwing or rolling the ball from one end of the playing area to the other, and players remain in the area of their own goal. Players must use the sound of the bell to judge the position and movement of the ball. Our sisters love to volunteer with the athletes and have been able to donate thousands of dollars to the Blind Sports Organization.
